In the wake of stray cattle posing a threat to the crops of millions of farmers in the state, Uttar Pradesh government has released funds worth Rs 125 crores to build shelters for these animals. A press statement issued by the government mentioned that the payment of these funds will be provided at the rate of Rs 50 per cow.
“According to the action plan, the allocated funds will be used to quickly build temporary shelters across the state to provide proper care and protection to the stray cows. This initiative aims not only to address the issue of stray cows on the roads but also to provide them with proper shelter, food, health care, and other facilities to ensure their well-being,” the statement mentioned.

The government stated that a grant of Rs 50 per day per cow will be given in temporary cow shelters. This funding is supposed to help cover the daily expenses of the care, treatment, proper nutrition and construction of suitable sheds of the cows in these shelters.
According to the action plan, officials from the Animal Husbandry Department in all districts will conduct regular visits to ensure that these cow shelters are providing optimal conditions for the cows, including proper healthcare.

Furthermore, government veterinary doctors will periodically examine the health of the cows in these shelters. District Magistrates, Block Officers, and Village Panchayat Officers will also bear the responsibility of inspecting these facilities from time to time.
