Lakhimpur Kheri rape-murder: Minor girls’ bodies buried after kins assured of compensation, strict punishment to accused

A day after the dead bodies of two minor girls belonging to the Dalit community were found hanging from a tree in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, their family has been assured of compensation and the bodies have been buried in the presence of heavy security in the Tamoli Purwa village.

“We have been provided a written assurance of a financial compensation for the murder of my sisters. The circle officer Sanjay Nath Tiwari has assured us of timely transfer of Rs 16 lakh (Rs 1,600,000) along with a government job and the allotment of a house. They have also assured me that the culprits will be booked with the harshest punishment,” Uttam Kumar, the victims’ brother told Gaon Connection.

The post-mortem report accessed by Gaon Connection has revealed that the cause of death was strangulation following which their bodies were hung from the tree. “Death is by asphyxia as result of ante-mortem [prior to death] strangulation,” the autopsy report mentioned. The report also mentions that both the lungs of the victims were found to be congested and exuded dark fluid blood and there were ligature mark present on all around neck and abrasion marks on the arms of the victims.

It is learnt that the six accused who are arrested are charged under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012 and one of the accused has been nabbed following an encounter in which he was shot at in the leg.

“A total of six accused have been arrested. Yesterday, these two girls were cajoled into a field where we suspect that they were raped and murdered. We cannot divulge minute details as of now as the primary investigation is still underway and the post-mortem report is awaited. A total of six accused have been arrested so far,” Sanjiv Suman, Superintendent of Police, told the press today, on September 15.
