On the occasion of India marking its 76th Independence Day on August 15, Gaon Connection will launch its new initiative — Gaon Radio — in a bid to bridge the gap between the urban and rural audiences.

On its launch, the Gaon Radio will not only include shows themed on agriculture, rural livelihoods and education but will also broadcast the live audio from New Delhi’s independence day procession at the Red Fort.

In its promotional video released ahead of Gaon Radio’s launch, Neelesh Misra, a widely known storyteller and founder of Gaon Connection stated that the new initiative seeks to provide yet another platform for the urban dwellers to connect with their rural roots.

“Gaon Radio is an initiative to strengthen the relationship which almost every Indian has with all things rural. It will help the audience engage with quality content from the rural hinterland in a far more convenient manner through podcasts and radio shows,” Neelesh Misra told Gaon Connection.

On August 15, the Gaon Radio will feature shows like Woh Pehli Azaad Subah, Azaadi Kya hai?, Shauryagaatha, Bhagat Singh Ki Chitthi, Aaj Hi Ke Din, Champaran Mein Gandhi ji and Rani Laxmi.

In its daily broadcasts after August 15, the Gaon Radio will have shows on weather updates, women empowerment, children’s entertainment, and the significance of lesser known festivals which are widely celebrated in the rural areas of the country.

Unlike a typical radio station which broadcasts shows on a fixed frequency, the Gaon Radio can be accessed on the official website of Gaon Connection.

In the coming weeks, the Gaon Radio will also feature audio interviews of experts on agriculture in order to provide valuable information to the rural masses who are predominantly dependent on farming for their livelihoods.
